Davenport discusses critics of Hunter's account; his own skepticism based on acquaintance with Hunter at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and his observations of Hunter and Osage Indians there; and his correspondence with Major Thomas Biddle regarding Hunter. Davenport also briefly discusses Hunter's departure from Fort Gibson and his activities in Texas.
